Improvements: Everything. These are cheap mounts with an unstable mounting system. I get that you tried to make them universal, but I would think na molded aero cast with a channel for the ability to add rubber padding depending on the size of the aero bar would be not only safer, but could allow for the system to have that extra 4-5 inches of push forward so the fairing sits on the vehicle where its actually supposed to.
      Would not recommend.

I'm disappointed in these mounts. I have an older Yakima fairing which was mounted to a Yak tube system. Flash forward to today-different car w aero bars so the old mounts didn't work. My side rails (and most vehicle side rails) don't allow for cross bars to be mounted all the way to the front of the rails near the top of the windshield. For example, my SUV side rails are mounted about 6 inches back from the top of the windshield, but the side rail system doesn't allow for a tower to be mounted for another 6 inches. So my aero cross bar is mounted approximately 12 inches back from the top of the windshield. And approximately 6 inches back from the top of the moon roof. The Yakima universal mounts don't push the fairing forward like the older Yak tube mounts did. So the fairing leaves about 4 inches of exposed moon roof and actually causing *more* wind noise in the SUV than without it. I purchased different mounts that will allow me to use the old hardware from the fairing which will push the fairing forward about 3 inches hopefully ditching the wind noise from the racks and the fairing.

I would try to adapt these mounts, but they're plastic and the attachment system is... different...they don't feel secure. So I don't think they'd handle any kind of re-boot. Also, because they don't feel secure I added high strength outdoor zip ties.

If your racks are mounted close the top of your windshield, these might work. But even if mine were, I'd still have looked for a different mounting system because they don't seem sturdy enough to handle Wisconsin's far below zero Fahrenheit winters.

If I had to do it over, I'd start somewhere else.

The photo is included just to demonstrate how far back the fairing would actually sit due to the side rail system configuration.
