TimberLine System

I have a 2019 VW Alltrack with the raised side rails and purchased the timberline system with the Jetstream bars in hopes of minimizing wind noise. Unfortunately the howling coming from the bars is almost unbearable at speeds above 45mph. At 80 mph it is still noticeable with the radio turned up beyond normal levels. Otherwise a great system and I have been using Yakima products for decades and their customer service is top notch, but based on your vehicle's aerodynamics you may be forced to buy a wind fairing so you don't dread taking your car on the freeway. For reference, I currently have FatCat 6 installed without a fairing (b/c they are out of stock everywhere), but the problem is not as bad when I trade out with my wifes Skybox which we occasionally take off her 4Runner. FYI I remove the bars in the summer. I Hope this helps because wind noise was a big issue for me when researching various rack systems.

I have always preferred Yakima products, and have always been happy with their performance, longevity and Yakima's customer support. So, when I purchased my new Wilderness, I knew I wanted to stick to the brand given I still have many old school Yakima products that are still working great (cargo box, ski rack, kayak J & Hully rollers, etc.). Will need to upgrade the old mounts with the new crossbars, but love the sleek look of the Timberline and Jetstream crossbars, and also purchased and installed locks for security. They look awesome with my black trim package, and feel super sturdy. Easy to assemble and install by myself.

Purchased the Timberline Rack System for our Toyota 4Runner to carry kayaks. Racks are excellent quality and very stable. Takes about an hour to set up following the instructions for proper fit. Also purchased the locks for peace of mind. Happy with our purchase.

I bought the rack system at Sam's Outfitters in Keene NH. The guys were great. They installed the racks on my wife's car in about 15 minutes. All I did was the final tower tightening. I'd recommend the racks and Sam's anytime.

Site is easy to use

The installation was a bit more time consuming than I expected, but well worth it. I thought the written instructions were excellent and better than some of the video instructions. Yak seems to have improved he strap and all parts fit my 2008 Ford Escape perfectly. My Ford came equipped with Factory rails and cross bars. The cross bars were getting pretty dinged up so I bought the Yak kit to fit my rails. After removing the factory cross bars I installed the Yak kit. The cross bars are a huge improvement over the old ones and I think the Yaks are actually quieter.

I imagine the idea of having a single type tower that fits all side rails is appealing, but I don't think it works. I purchased the Yakima Timberline because it's what is recommended for my 2013 Sienna. But it really doesn't fit the vehicle. It doesn't hug the bars and it definitely doesn't form to them. There are gaps and most of the tower is not in contact with the bars. Hopefully other people have better luck.
