Solid rack. I tried mounting it on my car's OEM crossbars and my Thule square bars and it was quick and easy either way. In my case, I settled on the square bars because you really need the rack as close to the side of your car as possible. Balancing the bike while you secure the front wheel is trickier if you have to reach too far. I'm going to wrap the tightening knob with rubber bands to improve the grip. If the knob was rubberized, the grip would've been better, but then the rubber would degrade and get ugly. The cable lock is very convenient. Remember to pass the cable under the crossbar before looping through the bike frame for security.
Love the clamping system, much sturdier than my old king cobras from waaay back. The only problem is that all three of the mountain bikes I have mounted on there are hanging off the back end of the rack. This would be a 5 star review but can't because I can't mount my bike with confidence it will stay on. Bummer...
I found the HighRoad to check all marks when it comes to carrying my gravel and MTB bikes... Easy to install and ease of use when mounting a bike. The built in tail end cable lock adds peace of mind. Keep in mind that you'll need 2 SKS locks. I opted to use the T-Slot kit and it's worth it if you also have the JetStream bars. Bikes are secure even going at California highway speeds (If you know what I mean...). I feel confident with the bikes mounted on the HighRoad. Worth it in my books. Thanks.
This is hands down, the best rooftop bike rack I have ever used. It takes less than 2 minutes to secure and lock your bike in this rack. It holds my large full suspension bike in an extremely secure fashion, and is great for freeway travel and rough roads. This rack is well worth the investment, I would recommend it to anyone.
With this rack and my bike on my car, I just drove under an 8ft carport, knocking my bike right off the car. Somehow, neither the bike rack, the bike, nor my roof rack was damaged. The bike just popped right off. The wheel strap detached itself from the rack, but no part of it is actually broken. Once I figure out how to get it back in, the rack is 100% usable. Given that I’m one day in to a 5-day cross country trip, I am very VERY grateful that I choose this mount. It’s built tough.
Can’t give a full review at this time. The rack came with no straps! $18 more than expected (for a replacement). Not what I was expecting
I purchased 2 of these last year and just bought 2 more for me other vehicle. Easy installation and locks up very well. we added an extra cable to cover the whole bike. This great and does not put any stress on the frame or the rims of my Carbon Fiber bikes. A little tough to load and unload (I am shorter) but other than that easy load and unload of the bikes. I know a bit pricey but an easy price to pay to take care of a more expensive bike. Travels well and is secure. thanks
These racks are by far the best rack ever produced by Yakima. They are incredibly easy to install and can be taken off and put back on faster than all previous models I have owned. They have a lock system to keep them secure to your vehicle and can be mounted to any roof rack without the need for special mounting brackets. If you don't already have a roof rack, you'll have to purchase that separately in order to use these bike racks. Once on your roof, getting your bike into the rack securely is easy since you can quickly push the back bar up to hold your bike in place, allowing you to do all the little adjustments for proper seating. The racks have a built in cable system to secure your bike onto the rack. The only problem with this, as with all Yakima Racks is the SKS locks that always have to be purchased separately. The racks are the heaviest and widest of all Yakima racks, but they also seem to be the most stable I've ever had when it comes to upright bike mounts that don't require the removal of the front wheel. Some previous models as well as a competitor brands models always felt like they had a little too much "roll" around turns as well as wind movement on the highway.
Bought two highroads to mount on a bar system mounted on my truck bed. Installation was a breeze. Have used it for hauling road bikes so far, but did put my mountain bike in just to check it. Easy to get bikes in and secure with the knob to tighten down on the front wheel. Nothing touches the frame. It does take a bit of coordination to lift the securing bar while the bike's front wheel rolls into the front location when you are adjusting it for the first time. It lifts easy though. I just held the back of the wheel with my hand, and while the wheels rolls forward, I grabbed the bar with my thumb. It lifted just enough to clear the frame. Once you have an idea of the angle, then just pre-adjust it before lifting the bike up. You'll want to flatten it though when you aren't hauling bikes. Overall quality is excellent (typical for Yakima). Value: I had to buy the towers and bars to mount the highroads on my truck bed, so it was pricy. I also had to buy two extra locks for the highroads for the cable locks that come with it. Overall If you are looking for a rack solution though, the highroads are awesome.
