Great but Yakima really missed 1 detail

Easy to install. Easy to use. Overall pretty great. Yakima REALLY overlooked 1 detail. There is no cushion or dampening when the bars fold down so you hear them rattle when you hit any bumps.

I love the small loop for U locks!

      Good rack, but security…

This rack is up to Yakima’s solid standards and holds the bike securely, but it isn’t perfect. My main issues regard security. First, unlike the HighSpeed (which I also have) the ratcheting knob for tightening the wheel attachment has no lock. Second, the theft inconvenience cable is too short to take in both chain stays on a Specialized Roubaix, it needs AT LEAST another 6 inches. Third, the eyelet welded to the clamping bar that holds the front wheel is installed at an angle that prevents use of a top end U-lock, and the opening is also too small. These faults make it very difficult to secure my bike to the rack with any kind of confidence, and they seem like easy design fixes. I’ll try to bend the eyelet to a useful configuration, but I’m sure that will crack the enamel. Better than losing an expensive bike…

Front wheel locking mechanism is good

It's too short for bikes longer than 48" measured from axle to axle. I have two bikes and the shorter one is 47" and barely fits and the longer, which goes off the end is 50". Also the rear strap requires me to wear a leather glove to be able to release it despite pushing on the button as illustrated in the directions. What's strange is that I have an older version and it is longer and the rear strap is secure and has always been easy to release.

      Love this rack!

This thing is awesome! I had a cheap rack that clamped on to the down tube and I was nervous every time I transported my bike. Kept an eye out the sunroof more than the road. Bike swayed side to side by several inches. Especially in the wind. This High Road is super secure! I don’t worry a second about my expensive bike! The Torque knob thing is super simple and quick. I have have my bike loaded or unloaded in seconds and with no guess work! I would by this rack again over and over. Highly recommended!!

I have a semi wide tire 3.25” Large size Cannondale Mountain bike and I have no problems with it fitting.

Great build quality, too short for modern bikes as others mentioned

I bought this yesterday and installed it. It's a very stable, solid, high quality rack. But i'm surprised Yakima doesn't realize modern bikes are longer. My 2021 Marin RiftZone, size Large, is too long and the rear wheel hangs off the back. About 3" longer than the rack will go. I don't get it. Was this designed 5 years ago? Imagine if you road an XL or XXL, you couldn't even use this rack.

Love it, but always received with damage

Let me start with I hate reviews that rate a product negatively when the issue is with the retailer or delivery company. The high road was the perfect choice for us. With young kids learning to ride, the option of quickly and securely attaching our bikes without removing the front wheel is a must. Also, the mounting straps readily allow for quick mounting and removal for storage. Also a plus for testing out custom configurations; we’re testing the medium off grid basket in tandem with the bike mounts. The built in cable for a bike lock was something we overlooked; so for us, a welcomed bonus. Liked it so much we bought two.

The gripe, we’ve now invested in several Yakima products; rack, 2 bike mounts, off grid basket, 20 sks locks. It’s bc we love the products that we’ve done so. However, why are the big boxes for the mounts and baskets severely beat up on arrival? Our products are from Yakima directly, REI, and trusted Amazon vendors (2000+ reviews). So it’s not a primary issue with one source. I was willing to overlook slight cosmetic damage, but now there’s rust on 2 week old products. With these premium products in high demand, they’re not easily replaceable. So stick with compromised products or be stuck at home?

The Yakima Highroad is a great roof bike rack that does not contact your frame but rather mainly secures your bike via the front tire, so there is no need to worry about over clamping your expensive carbon frame and there is no need to take off the front wheel. The rack fits 23mm to 4" tires and supports rims from 26" to 29". The TorqueRight knob makes it easy to know when your wheel is perfectly secured. You can install the rack on any type of bar but it also has the ability to be installed with T-Slot crossbars. The rack has the ability to lock the rack to your bars and also has a TailWhip cable to secure your bike however this requires the Yakima SKS locks. At $250 the locks should have already came installed. Other minor qualms are the fact that the Highroad racks are fairly wide compared to Thule offerings and that each rack weighs 18lbs. I managed to fit two on my My 2020 Acura TLX with some Rhino Rack Aero bars.

      Perfect Rooftop Rack

This rack is solid! It works for my road, gravel, and mountain bikes. It is sturdy, simple, and functional. Sounds perfect and it almost is. What are the downsides? Only two things you have to endure before mounting this bike holding piece of awesomeness to your vehicle; 1) It's on backorder. I waited almost three months to get it. 2) Yakima only uses FedEx for shipping. They are horrible. My rack sat in a FedEx warehouse for nearly three weeks because of the "pandemic". Several phone calls to Yakima and FedEx finally got it on a truck only to arrive looking like it did two tours in Iraq. Yakima refunded the shipping fees and sent me the missing pieces. Now I smile every time I use it. If you can deal with those two frustrations then get this rack on your car!

Solid rack. I tried mounting it on my car's OEM crossbars and my Thule square bars and it was quick and easy either way. In my case, I settled on the square bars because you really need the rack as close to the side of your car as possible. Balancing the bike while you secure the front wheel is trickier if you have to reach too far. I'm going to wrap the tightening knob with rubber bands to improve the grip. If the knob was rubberized, the grip would've been better, but then the rubber would degrade and get ugly. The cable lock is very convenient. Remember to pass the cable under the crossbar before looping through the bike frame for security.

Great rack, not long enough by modern MTB Standards

Love the clamping system, much sturdier than my old king cobras from waaay back. The only problem is that all three of the mountain bikes I have mounted on there are hanging off the back end of the rack. This would be a 5 star review but can't because I can't mount my bike with confidence it will stay on. Bummer...
