      Bomb proof

      Installation was incredibly easy especially with the helpful YouTube videos. I couldn’t be happier. After years of breaking rods down or opening the back truck window and sliding the rods through, the DoubleHaul is an absolute godsend. It makes getting ready so easy. I can have all my rods ready to go with quick and easy access. It makes prep for the river so easy and effortless. Wish I’d got it sooner!

      Rod saver

      Being a professional fly fishing guide I don’t know how I survived this long without this product. Trying to store rods inside the car usually means sooner or later one will be broken. Time saved by fully setup rods means your clients get more for their money.

      Love it during the summer time

      First off this Fly Rod rack is amazing. It the first rack I bought because I got tired of having to fully set up my fly rods when I got somewhere to fish and if I wanted to move spots I had to take my rods apart which got annoying. So far I’ve only had one issue with it and as it’s gotten colder here in Washington I’ve had the lock freeze up and not been able to get my fly rods out to fish. If you only plan to have it on during warmer months it’s great!

      Love the double haul, but....

      This will not fit on a 5th gen 4Runner if you mount it properly and open the back hatch at the same time. The bar spread with the factory roof rack is not wide enough to allow you to slide the carrier far enough forward to open the back hatch and have the mounting plates properly spaced per the directions. You have to slide the carrier as far forward as possible which leaves the front half unsupported.

      DoubleHaul=Awesome

      Just finished 4-day trip traveling hundreds of miles of forest roads, and this product is amazing. No road noise or issues on bumpy terrain. Saved countless hours of time when we popped around to different rivers allowing us to jump out quickly and get more fishing time in. Great product!

      DoubleHaul Fall 2019

      I preordered this fly rod rack and was very excited to receive it before a scheduled trip to Hayward, WI. I purchased and had it installed locally through Pedal & Spoke in North Aurora, IL. Yakima’s website listed them as a local vendor and I was glad I followed up with them because their service was fantastic! My impressions of the rack thus far have been very positive. It is extremely well built and I fully expect the quality of the build will last the intended lifetime of its use. I wasn’t sure how it would look mounted on my Honda Passport but I am pleased to say it really enhances the sporty look of the vehicle. I purchased the wind shield to be mounted at the front of the crossbar system as it was recommended by the staff at Pedal & Spoke and there was no noticeable sound during travel. The mount isn’t exactly a perfect fit for my vehicle. Based upon the frame mounts of the rack and the spacing of the crossbars, it was a very tight fit with almost zero tolerance in avoiding the “spoiler” at the top of my rear hatch, which opens upward. I did not have the time to make any adjustments as the timing of the install and my scheduled trip were very close and the present mounting more than worked. I may explore some adjusting to see if the rack can be moved slightly forward and also a tad laterally towards the passenger side. I would offer that my skills at accomplishing these adjustments are limited but I have a friend who is a bit more adept at this than myself. I’m hoping this can be achieved. My first trip with the double haul on my vehicle and in use was over 1,000 miles, plenty of travel to get a good feel for its function, security and safe travels with (4) setups in tow. We don’t have cheap gear so protecting the rod setups was very important. There was no wear at all on the body of the reels or finish of the rod blanks from vibration, something I had some concern about as I take really good care of my gear and I didn’t want any damage occurring. I utilized the additional foam inserts provided and attached to the rod blanks to assist with dampening vibration within the rod tubes. I only did this on the longer portions of the ride up and back. The rods were easy to insert and remove from the casing and the locking storage cover feels secure thus far. My disappointment was that the (2) lower compartments were supposed to be able to house “most 10 weight reel sizes”. Well, we had three different 10 weight musky rods and reels and none of them would fit in the bottom two compartments. We ended up putting our 8 weights in the bottom slots, but that wasn’t our initial intent. The upper two compartments were fine for the 10’s. Perhaps this is an adjustment that can be made on future models. Overall, I am very pleased with the quality, function and styling of the doublehaul fly rod holder. It is a bit of a bummer that it would not hold (4) of the 10 weight setups, but 75% of the time I fish with 8 weights or less so this isn’t a real deal breaker for me. The rack mount is really solid. I can grab the body of the rack and gently rock the vehicle without any movement or squeak from the rack whatsoever. Again, my impressions thus far are that this rack is very durable and will offer many years of service and protection for my gear. I’m very happy to have made the purchase and I highly recommend it to anyone considering making the purchase.

      DoubleHaul hits it out of the park

      After struggling with the competition, I'm really glad I discovered that Yakima designed a rod carrier without any of the issues I had with the others. I have the shorter version (fits better on my little car) and it's fantastic. The rods lay on their side so that eliminates wear on the guides (a huge issue I've always had with the other rod carriers out their), there are little rubber clips to put on your rod that eliminates any rubbing on the rods finish (another issue present in the competition). I fish with a lot of 10wts and these work great with them and the large reels that I use. I also like the fact that I can fit the extended handle of my two-handed rod in these. The DoubleHaul does everything it was designed to do. It's really nice not having my fully rigged rods banging around inside the car and the DoubleHaul keeps them protected, not to mention the fool proof locking mechanism. You may scoff at the price, but it's right in line with what much of the competition is and a far superior product. Kudos to Yakima for FINALLY putting these out!
