Don't Worry, We Have A Spare
Purchased these locking straps when I purchased my Hobie PA14. Use it everyday to lock kayak onto trailer first to secure it for transport to the ocean, second to keep thieves from stealing it. Worked like a charm for a month or month and a half then they stopped catching and locking down on the strap. Even after locking you can pull with relatively light force and straps will pull completely out of locking mechanism. Very concerned wind could catch the Hobie and simply pull the straps loose and fly into traffic or a thief will test the locks and figure out they are worthless and there goes my kayak.
I will be emailing Yakima today 8/09/20 and seeing what can be done to solve issue, I already owned a set of cam straps so there was no need to spend $140.00 on these locking or rather non locking ones. More as this plays out.
I own both Thule and Yakima locking straps, Yakima are a bit more secure. These straps discourage the average honest person and slow down the dedicated thief. Like all Yakima and Thule stuff, they are absurdly expensive.
Locked the strap with the wrong key. Unable to unlock with the correct key so was forced to use a hacksaw to cut the strap which I was able to do in less than 45 seconds.
Not only do I use it to transport 3 paddle boards, I have transported tables and anything with those cords. Love how it can be locked up to run into a store :)
These 12’ locking multi-purpose cargo straps are a must-have accessory for anyone with a rack. Lock anything from surfboards and boats to bikes and motorcycles. Even strap and lockdown ladders and other gear. You’ll wonder how you ever lived without them.
