Assembled fairly easily, and seems quite solid. We've transported two ebikes on it, and it felt very secure. The mounting onto our receiver was easy, and loading/unloading bikes is similarly quite easy.

This is my second Hold Up rack, the first one after 12 years of steady use got a little loose, but was still functional. These racks are so easy to load the bikes on and nothing touches the bike frames. If I had one complaint about the new one, it is that the rear tire strap and ratchet assembly are not as good as the first one. The new release lever is difficult to release and the ratcheting feature has been taken away. Other than that, this rack is the same as my first one.

Great setup. Easy to place and secure bikes. Lock feature is a bonus. Great product both function and looks.

It's a good, solid built rack. I feel for anyone that runs into on the road. With that being said, I have a 29er with 2.25-5 tires. The part you fold out that the front wheel nests into does not allow the fire to nest deep enough. The arm needs to be longer. It will cause the bike to roll out of the wheel cradle as you go around turns and go down bump roads as the rack shakes back and forth. Even with the arm pushed tightly on the tire it still moves. I have been able to mitigate this some by airing dow the tire but it does not help much. My recommendation to Yakima is to make the fold out wheel cradle a tinge longer. I am not sure if a larger wheel cup would do anything. Bought this rack back in 2020 so I have plenty of miles on it and experience with it.

If you ride, or want to transport a size medium or larger bike then this bike rack is not for you. After not even a full year with this new rack I received a crack along the weld on this rack. I trusted Yakima to file a warranty claim as this is, what I assumed a manufacturers defect as this defect appeared along a fabrication point. However due to me hauling around my size large bike with a wheelbase above 48”, I was denied a warranty and am left with an unusable rack. Very disappointed with this company, but hey that’s my own fault for not hauling a small mountain bike.

The holdup 2 is a rugged rack with a good finish. Handles 2 bikes with no problem and no issues to the frame. However, if carrying 1 bike caution is needed to ensure the outside hold down is secured. If not, the hold down can bounce out of the clip and swing down to the road. Mine did this and rubbed off the lock (cable end). Luckily it did not catch anything and rip the arm off. Why is there not a stop that prevents the arm from swinging down past the horizontal? This seems to be an easy fix that would prevent something serious from happening. We do not always carry two bikes.

The red ratchet button on the bar that holds down the front wheel, rubs against my fork and scratches the sticker. Not cool. This happened as a result of the bike rocking back-and-forth, which can happen when I hit bumps. I might heed another reviewer’s advice and use Velcro straps on the front wheel to the front wheel tray. Otherwise a great rack, except it weighs 1,000,000 pounds, especially when you add the two bike extension to it.

I just recieved my rack and installed it today so my review will be very specific to my experience so far. This is the 3rd Yakima rack I have owned and I have been very pleased with their products. I also work in a bike shop and we sell several of the leading brands of bike racks, they all have their good and not so good points. My review and comments are meant to address some of what I have read on reviews of this rack in particular. Specific to this rack, despite what others have written I had no issues with my 29x2.6 MTB tires, they fit perfectly. I have four bikes with tires from 700x25 to 700x35 to 29x2.6 to 26x2.35, three of which are heavy ebikes, there are no issues with any of them.

I've had this rack for a couple of years now. Right off I noticed my 29" wheels would not stay in the front wheel holder when the "strong arm" grip was tightly pushed down on the tire. The tire would roll right out while moving! Go figure?! Yakima could easily solve this situation. A strap similar to the rear wheel needs to be supplied. I solved it by putting a Velcro strap on the front and rear portions of the holder and my tire. That worked perfectly.

Mostly writing this review because I saw some reviews complaining about their 29ers not fitting. My procaliber 9.5 frame size M/L with 29x2.2 XR2s and my Fuel EX 8 frame size M/L running 29x2.4 XR4s or 29x2.3 SE5s has no issues fitting in the rack. Hope that's helpful!

My only complaint is the locks are only good enough to keep someone from stealing the bikes in traffic. Even then, you'll probably need to throw the car in reverse and knock the would-be thief over. Easily picked, easily cut. I'd love a welded hitching post where I could put a decent lock and chain. The lock on the hitch attachment itself is also easily picked but I am generally less concerned about a thief carrying the entire rack plus two bikes around.
