More than you thought it would be

We were looking for a carrier system for four bikes and a hitch mounted cargo box. The EVO components will do that. Out on the road for our first trip we noted that the gas mileage was about 4 MPG less when the bikes were up in the wind sideways ! The swing away hitch mounting did allow opening the hatch on the Jeep Cherokee , but it is not quick or easy when loaded. With bikes and box swung away and hatch open - the bikes were then also needed to be swung back toward the hatch in order to open the cargo box ! Also, the box lid will not fully open as the bike rack swing back interferes with the hatch. We dealt with it but thought it should not have been designed that way. It is worth knowing that lifting the bikes up into the rack is a strain compared to bikes mounted lower. The receiver hitch mount should include an anti-movement clamp to prevent the small movement at the hitch from becoming a huge sway up at the bikes. We had a clamp but all the additional mountings and pivots resulted in a disconcerting swinging of the bikes around. If I was outfitting my Jeep Cherokee again with Yakima components - I would use a rooftop box instead of the hitch box. This will allow the bikes to be out of the wind, save gas mileage , and be easier to load/unload. Overall your system can be outfitted as you like but it is worth knowing what you are getting.

      Doesn’t fit 27.5 fatties

States it is rated for fat tires up to 4.8”. That must be for only 26 inch tires. It does not fit my 27.5 x 4.5” tires. Big bummer. Also, the rear wheel strap snapped the first time I used it. Cheap to replace, but still. A bummer.
