You were learning to snowboard and got your ass handed to you on a wet paper plate. You were changing a diaper at a trailhead using a T-shirt and spare parts. You were watching the Northern Lights, speechless for maybe a minute, maybe an hour.

Who was there to laugh with you? To hold their noses with you? To be awe-inspired with you?

Your friends.

Your buddies. Your chicas. Your compatriots. The whole fam damily.

That’s what made it worth doing.

You go out, you explore, and you come back different. Not by much, but, admit it: you’re more you when you get outside with friends. Do that over and over and over, and you’ve got a life well spent.

We believe in that. Put the gear on top. Put butts in the seats. Go.

Take more friends.

We’ve got a great team of folks that travel the country, meeting you at some of your favorite events.

They try to figure out what YAKIMA can do to help you get outdoors more and take more friends with you when you do.

We call them the Road Warriors.

So, if you’ve ever wanted to speak with someone on the YAKIMA team in person, maybe ask a question, maybe show off your DIY rack modification on your muscle car, or even if you just want to share a story about your recent road trip, look for our booth at these upcoming events:

August 1-5 — Downieville Classic, a mountain bike race in Downieville, California.

August 7-12 — Tour of Utah, an awesome pro cycling race around Salt Lake City.

August 10-12 — Pelatonia, an organized ride to raise cancer research funds in Dayton, Ohio.

August 20-26 — U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge, a pro stage race across Colorado.

August 24-25 — Hood To Coast, a running relay race from Mt. Hood, Oregon, all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Look for the YAKIMA team running in this one, too!

Sept. 14-17 — Gauley Fest, the biggest whitewater party of the year, in Summersville, West Virginia.

If you have trouble finding us at any of these events, just give us a shout on Twitter — @yakimaracks.

When Kevin Shane and his father pass by, it’s obvious they’re into the classics — classic bikes and classic muscle cars.

The father-son Shane duo are turning heads in California with their unique combination of muscle cars outfitted with bike racks.

You might see them in a metallic green Chevy Impala or a boss Chevelle, with a home-built Gary Fisher mountain bike on the trailer hitch, or old school Marin and Nishiki road bikes side-by-side on the rack up top.

“People seem to really like it,” Kevin says. “One guy even jumped out of his car at a traffic light to take a picture with his cell phone.”

He and dad have been cobbling together bikes since his childhood — Kevin turns 18 this fall — and they got into racks the same way.

“A guy gave my dad some old rack equipment, he bought some new tubes, and he just made it fit the Impala,” Kevin says. “People definitely notice when we pull into the campground. It’s pretty cool.”
