This weekend the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and Yakima are teaming up to give away a SkyBox Pro 16 for National Get Outdoors Day. Click here for more information on our Instagram Contest! This event, held at locations across the country, encourages healthy, active outdoor fun! American families will have a chance to experience traditional and non-traditional types of outdoor activities. In addition to a fun-filled day of activities, people and kids will learn about the outdoors through a variety of learning stations. The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will be located in the Junior Ranger Camp area in Denver, CO; Greentown, PA; and Portland, OR. Submit a photo of how you are celebrating National Get Outdoors Day by tagging @YakimaRacks and @LeaveNoTraceCenter on Instagram and you will be entered to win a SkyBox Pro 16!
Campfires can be an enjoyable part of your camping experience.
Leave No Trace is not against campfires, but the organization does promote the responsible use of campfires. Here are a few tips when considering building a campfire:
- Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires.
- Keep fires small. Only use sticks from the ground that can be broken by hand. Or purchase local wood from the campground.
- Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes.
- Avoid burning trash and left over food scraps as this releases toxins into the atmosphere and may attract wildlife to your campsite. Pack it out.
