It’s National Bike To Work Week and we’re giving away a HoldUp!

Get out on your bike!

This week is National Bike To Work Week and Friday is Bike to Work Day. We love bikes and biking to work is a great way to start your day. Share your photo of your bike or your bike commute this week with us on Instagram. We’ll pick our favorite picture to receive a new Yakima HoldUp!

Here’s how it works:

1) Follow @yakimaracks on Instagram

2) Snap a picture of your bike or bike commute

3) Tag the picture with @YakimaRacks using Instagram’s new “add people” feature or in the caption.

The contest will end at 2pm ET on National Bike to Work Day (Friday, May 17th) and the winner will be announced that evening. You can find all of the Official Rules here.

Bike commuting rocks. But when you need to go a bit farther get a Yakima rack, take more friends, and take fewer cars.

Red Rocks, the Yakima HoldUp, and Friends.

At the Sea Otter Classic last month we introduced our redesigned hitch-mounted bike rack, the HoldUp. Summer and Kara walked through the features of the HoldUp for our friends over at MTBR. These features include a 4-bike capacity when used with the HoldUp Plus 2, a new StrongArm ratcheting system allowing for compatibility with 20-29 inch wheels, integrated cable lock, and of course an integrated bottle opener. Of course, the best way to showcase a new product is with a road trip. Moab, Utah, is the long-standing mecca of mountain biking and begs to be a road trip destination. It has all of the ingredients from the red rock, endless miles of BLM land, mountain biking trails, and of course friends. Lots of friends.

Porcupine Rim, Jackson Trail, pre-riding the Mag 7 Enduro, birthdays, and camp fires were added to the trip. Adding the HoldUp Plus 2 allowed us to take the entire crew including our best friend with us, even if he was caught laying around on the job.

Get out there and ride, take a rack, and take more friends.

Take More Crazy Racers | Video

Every community has their traditions.

England has gurning, Spain has the Day of the Geese, and Portland… Well, Portland has the PDX Adult Soapbox Derby.

Have you ever seen the movie Little Rascals? It’s a lot like that, only it has adults. In costumes.

Really though, it’s one of the coolest events you’ll ever see, and it’s been crowding the streets of of Mount Tabor near Portland, Oregon since 1997.

Team Yakima made a splash this year with their modified big-wheel, along with 41 other teams competing for prizes for speed, engineering, art and crowd pleasure. It’s fun, it’s crazy, and with over 5,000 people in attendance, it’s a party you won’t soon forget.

You were learning to snowboard and got your ass handed to you on a wet paper plate. You were changing a diaper at a trailhead using a T-shirt and spare parts. You were watching the Northern Lights, speechless for maybe a minute, maybe an hour.

Who was there to laugh with you? To hold their noses with you? To be awe-inspired with you?

Your friends.

Your buddies. Your chicas. Your compatriots. The whole fam damily.

That’s what made it worth doing.

You go out, you explore, and you come back different. Not by much, but, admit it: you’re more you when you get outside with friends. Do that over and over and over, and you’ve got a life well spent.

We believe in that. Put the gear on top. Put butts in the seats. Go.
